As the students shuffled into the computer lab on the first day of school, they had no idea of what to expect. Neither did I. We were given the task of starting a school newspaper from scratch. After much trial and error, we have begun to publish and I am very proud of the effort that the students have put forth. This blog is a continuation of the process to make ouRCity News a modern and relevant source of news for the entire school community.
When I first signed up for this class I really didn’t know what to think. I enjoy writing and everyone in this class is wonderful. We had our ups and down but we came back with something stronger. Noone said it would be easy, but we made it happen either way and i think we all had fun doing it.
ya i agree with you we came in this class expecting just expecting it to be easy but no it is the oppisite sure it can be sometimes but other times its rough and we all grew to love eachoyher like a family
My most memorable moment that has happend to me in school, is my tennis match against our rivals, West Campus. My partner and I were down 4-7 in the beginning of the game with an extremely slow start. But we didn’t give up until we eventually made the score a tie of nine all. We also had a slow start in the tie breaker, but beat the second best team in the league with a score of 10-9 and my winning serve in the tie break of 8-6.
Thats really cool! Your team never gave up, you guys persevered and therefore, your team won! Rivals are always fun, especially when you win 🙂
I can relate to this becuase the basketball team beat Dixion, our rival, in a triple overtime win this season by my freethrows. Another memorbale moment, definitely!
The first day I had this class I was excited, I was like, “Okay, I got myself an easy A.” Yeah I was so wrong. This journalism class is in a way difficult but it has a lot of fun things intertwined with the class.
The MOST difficult thing in this class is trying not to get distracted. Basically you’re on the computer researching info and typing it on Word. It’s very hard for me not to go on another site and just mess around. Other than that reaching the deadlines is probably the hard one or maybe it’s having a new different idea for each Month. 😛
I’am going to agree with what Lili said, it thought this class would be easy. “WRONG”! because I’am easily distracted ,especialy being on the computers and trying to do my work.
I took the class for one of two reasons my brother was on the old newspaper we had and because i thought it was an easy class like lili and deja said and i was so wrong its tough getting the deadlines in on time and to make your article perfect for our newspaper but its all worth it because i have a fun time being in journalism.
I agree with Deja and Lili being on the computers and trying to do my work isnt very easy lol. I end up taking my time not finshing up everything till the last minunte and thats not good at all.
yeah I also agree. I dint’t know what to expect when I first sighned up for this class, it is hard meeting the deadlines and i sometimes get distracted with the computer, but I like being able to write an article and seeing it in the newspaper. XD
My most memorable moment was our last one lunch at RCHS because it broke out into chaos and a sort of rioting in the quad but all of this was triggered by the food fight earlier that lunch that forced most everyone into the quad.
At the beggining of this school year i was just interested and devoted to my school work and my books but that changed drastically for me. At the RC WinterBall I met a new friend that helped benefit my school career alot. Before I met him I would have never of thought ever joining any school sport but he persuaded and in a way forced me to join the swim team with him. At the beginning I was really doubtful about actually going through with it but I got up the nerves to continue what I started, I am really glad i did. I found a sport that i really enjoy, In the past this particular sport would have been one of the last on my list of ones i would attempt to try out for. It happened to be the first and one im not to bad at. I learned that trying something you wouldn’t normally do may benefit you in alot of other things and swimming has done that for me.
Thats great! I know, when you told me that you were going to join I thought that you wernt going to like it, like me when I started out. But we’re in high school and this is the time to break out of our shells and to try new things. I’m glad that you found swimming desireable to you! =]
One of my most memorable moments would have to be when the first issue of ouRCity News arrived and seeing my article in the paper. I was so happy because it was cool seeing everyone’s hard work printed in the newspaper. I was also suprised to see that a lot of students actually wanted to read the school newspaper. (^-^)
ya it was amazing and the feeling of seeing our articles that we wrote was just so exciting and it was a feeling like no other.
I totally agree with you! i was so excited, I was practically jumping up and down when i got home =)
Sadly for me. I was absent on our first two editions of the newspaper so I didn’t see my articles. 😦
I was bummed out but then I saw our third newspaper and I was like O: OMG that’s my story!?! No way!? I felt accomplished. ^_^
I agree seeing the excitement on everyones faces and even as the room filled with the scent of that weird print smell of all news papers you could tell our class was proud and that no matter what anyone had said about our article or paper we had all been happy to have it finally there in our hands. (:
(I tried to post this before but it told me I couldn’t, so if I already did then I’m sorry!!)
This is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard! I’m glad you all were there for her when she needed you. That is what true friends are for! (:
This is a poem for Prom that I am writing, and I would love to know what you guys think! Thank you!!
PROM
As she sits beside the door,
Outside she can hear the rain coming down in a pour.
But where is her love?
The one whom she believes was sent from above?
A horn honks; there is now a limo outside,
As her beloved steps out, she began to cry.
Had he really done this all for her?
She grabs the last piece to her ensemble, a jacket lined with fake fur.
The girl steps outside, she gave her date a smile.
Its Prom night and she will be gone for a while.
Finally they arrived at their destination.
When her buddies saw her, eyes popped with adoration.
This is the best night, nothing can go wrong.
She slow dances with her date on the very first song.
Soon, the D.J turned up the beat,
No more hearing only shuffling of the feet.
The time had gone by so very fast,
Prom came to an end at last.
‘This is a night’ she thought ‘to remember’
‘Always, and Forever’
i really like this poem its really good
Wow. That’s really really good!
[Enter two thumbs up here] 😀
This poem is really good, I think it should go in our next issue 🙂
My most memorable moment would have to be my first Guitar rehersal and OH MY GOSH was that bad. The rehersal had come WAY to early and it was the easiest song you could play because it was only on 1 string but yeah…I totally destroyed it. And of course I HAD to be the second person to play in front of my whole class and they were as quiet as a graveyard which made the whole situation worse for me. I did try to ease my nervousness a little bit so i made the class laugh but once I sat down i began to shake and tremble so bad that my fingers got stiff and weird. I could feel my face getting red.
Finally i finished the song and i literally ran back to my seat feeling embarassed, but i did enjoy watching everyone else Fail as well. 😀
There is always a strange sort of reassurance when we watch other people struggle. It’s not that we wish for them to do poorly, maybe it just helps us to put our own limitiations into perspective.
Thats so funny! At least you had tried, almost like my first dance recital, when i was like 5 yrs old. i kept triping over my own two feet!
The most memorable moment I have experianced at RCHS would have to be coming into Journalism class and becoming a Layout Editor. I had no clue what a “Layout Editor” was nor did i know what this job included. I thought it was going to be a easy “A” and almost no work at all. Until a few weeks later, Mr.Hoermann informed me that I would be laying out the School’s Newspaper along with fellow classmates, Marc and Andrew. At first I was really nervous because I wasn’t familiar with the software we had to use and I never put something together from scratch. Until the time came for us to layout our first newspaper which was the October/November Issue. It was a bit bumpy at first until we started learning the techniques of the software. I caught on really quick and I learned a lot of new things from my teacher and my Journalism classmates. It was a great experiance (: Especially when we got to publish the newspaper, I think it came out pretty good for it being our first.
You have done a really nice job. I have received many comments from other teachers about the quality of our paper. Keep up the good work!
An article that i would look forwading to writing would be about the junior varsity football coach, i would like to find out what changes he will make to the team and his thoughts about the upcoming season.
My most memorable moment was when I was at a tennis match and we were at Escalon for an exhibition match. They were our rivals as well as state champions. They were also undefeated in their league and had never lost a match yet. It had all come down to this, each side had both won 4 matches and each side needed this last match to break the tie. It was Victor (RC) against Ceasar (Escalon). Victor played extremely well and kept the ball in play. Ceasar could not match this and he lost 3-2. We crushed Escalon’s hope for an undefeated season as well as made a statment: were out for the championship. It was a great feeling.
An article that I would be interested in writing would be about Officer Kirkland. Almost everyone knows who he is but not really why is he here and what he is doing daily. It would be very interesting to cover that.
I would like to cover the rally also, it would be the first rally this year.
I would like to cover a cross country practice, i know trath i didn’t get the game but this time im prepared.
